Children of the Sea
Exploring the marine diversity of The Bahamas and Caribbean

Since 1985 Island Expedition's Dragan and Nicolas Popov have pioneered environmental and oceanographic education in The Bahamas and Caribbean. The Popovs newest book Children of the Sea explores the marine diversity of The Bahamas and Caribbean sea. The 112 page hard cover book is illustrated with 140 magnificent colour photographs depicting young people on expedition and the natural wonders of the tropical seas.

Children of the Sea is an effort in environmental education. The goal of the book is to teach students, islanders and visitors about basic ecological concepts and threats to the marine environment of the Caribbean sea. The section on marine ecosystems covers the three principal areas; coral reefs, mangroves and sand & sea grass terrains. Included in each ecosystem is a description of its species diversity, function, structural aspect and degradation due to human impact. Specific sections on the humpback whales of the Silver Bank and dolphins of The Bahamas are the result of extensive observations and studies completed over a 15 year period.Throughout this book you will find quotes, stories and poems written by students on the Island Expedition School at Sea program.
