During each winter and summer
from 1990 to 2001, Island Expedition surveyed and researched
dolphins and whales in the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and especially
in the Mouchoir and Silver Banks. Although the highlight of these
winte r quarters included months of recorded observations
of humpback whale behaviour, much of it from the bow of the 300
foot wreck "Polyxeni, " students also traveled an average
of 3,000 miles each winter learning and documenting the people
and the environment. Making presentations to schools, analyzing
marine debris, pollution and degradation, and assisting with
local residents and park wardens is also an important part of
these internships.
As cultural and environmental awareness has become of great concern for many countries worldwide, Island Expedition looks forward to making its contribution. As we travel in different countries, specific dates on our callendar will allow you to visit us anytime.
Training islanders in the fields
of environmental science such as coastal management, waste management,
sustainable tourism deve lopment (ecotourism)
is imperative. Island Expedition and the School at sea offers
the possibility for only a small numbers of students to participate,
and therefore hope to influence others to run similar programs
in islands throughout the world.

ATTENTION : There will be two
sets of 7 day internships this spring and summer in April and
July. Observations of and swimming with dophins will take place
along with an ethnographic expedition. Dragan Popov, director
and founder of Island Expedition, will be leading the trips.
The trips will present Island Expeditions' education and research
at sea and a lso current information on The Bahamas' ecosystems,
biodiversity, marine life and some of the environmental efforts
existing today.
Island Expedition has a variety
of books and videos describing in detail the internships The
